The COVID-19 pandemic has been an ever-changing situation in Pennsylvania, with case rates fluctuating over the past two years due to the rollout of vaccines and the emergence of new mutations and variants. The rapid spread of the omicron variant has reignited debate over school closings and remote learning, mask and vaccine mandates and frontline worker shortages across the Keystone State.

Health officials at both the state and local levels continue to provide data on COVID-19, which can provide important context to businesses, government officials and citizens alike as the pandemic continues. City & State is tracking some key COVID-19 numbers to keep Pennsylvanians apprised of how the virus is impacting the state.

STATEWIDE

43,600 – The number of Pennsylvania residents who have died after testing positive for the coronavirus, as reported by the Pennsylvania Department of Health on March 7. There were 37 deaths on Feb. 22.

2,293,418 – Total number of confirmed positive tests for the coronavirus, as reported on March 7. There were 567 positive tests on March 6. 

1,060 – The number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus on March 7. At the height of the second wave on Dec. 16, 2020, there were 6,346 people hospitalized with COVID-19. 

191 – The number of patients in intensive care units on March 7. At the height of the second wave on Dec. 23, 2020, there were 1,263 people in intensive care units. 

8,202,643 – Total number of people who have received at least one coronavirus vaccine dose in Pennsylvania, as reported on March 7.

7,257,709 – Total number of people who have received two doses in Pennsylvania, as reported on March 7.

PHILADELPHIA

4,874 – Number of confirmed coronavirus deaths of Philadelphia residents according to the city, as reported on March 7.

305,336 – Total number of positive tests in Philadelphia for the coronavirus, as reported on March 7. In the last two weeks, 1.3% of COVID-19 tests in Philadelphia have come back positive.

1,531,155 – Total number of Philadelphia residents who have received at least one coronavirus vaccine in Philadelphia, as reported on March 7. 

1,238,348 – Total number of Philadelphia residents who have received two doses in Philadelphia, as reported on March 7.
