Snapshots from City & State’s Above & Beyond awards
Chrissy Houlahan, Joanna McClinton, and everyone who came out to celebrate women of merit.
U.S. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan was the only female graduate from her college to complete Air Force ROTC. After serving several years as an engineer in the Air Force, she went on to start her own company with her husband – and then another. Later, she taught high school chemistry before winning a seat in Congress. A self-described “peripatetic,” Houlahan was one of several women who were honored at the 2nd annual Above & Beyond awards ceremony last week at the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia. Her story resonated with more than 200 women who came out to recognize City & State’s 2023 Above & Beyond honorees who were nominated by their peers for an award. Other speakers from the evening’s event included state House Speaker Joanna McClinton, Spectrum Health’s Veronica Hill-Milbourne, PUC’s Gladys Brown Dutrieuille and Comcast’s Alka Patel.
