The 2025 Energy Summit

More than 200 people took part in City & State’s 2025 Energy Summit, held April 22 at the Hilton Harrisburg.
The theme of the summit, “The Future of Energy in Pennsylvania,” was at the forefront of the keynote, delivered by Department of Environmental Protection Acting Secretary Jessica Shirley, as well as the event’s two panels. The first, which revolved around the supports and barriers to making the commonwealth’s energy future more robust and sustainable, was moderated by City & State Managing Editor Justin Sweitzer, and panelists included Rep. Greg Vitali, Chair, Environmental Resources & Energy Committee; Stephen M. DeFrank, Chair, Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission; Alon Abramson, Vice President of Programs, Philadelphia Energy Authority; Mark Schneider, President, East Region, Cordia Energy; John Costlow, President & CEO, Sustainable Energy Fund; and Mike DuHaime, Senior Advisor, Natural Allies for a Clean Energy Future. The second panel, which explored workforce development and economic development, was moderated by Rachel McDevitt, a reporter for StateImpact Pennsylvania and WITF. Panelists included Nidhi Krishen, Deputy Director, Climate Solutions, Office of Sustainability, Philadelphia Office of Sustainability; Kathryn L. Zerfuss, Advisory Committee, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Farm, Ranch, and Rural Communities & Commissioner, Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission; Autumn Anderson, Executive Director, CWTP, Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry; Derek Welch, CEO, Lucknow-Highspire Terminals; and Drew Simpson III, Senior Regional Manager, Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters.
