Pennsylvania’s Carpenters Union is Focused on Excellence and Training in 2024

The Carpenters Union has long been a leading force in fighting to improve the lives of millions of Americans - union and non-union alike - by providing access to the middle class and the American Dream. The foundation of our success is within our four-year apprenticeship program, which provides a comprehensive blend of sophisticated skill-specific classroom instruction by specialty experts, at some of the most state-of-the-art training facilities in the country, combined with earn-as-you-learn on-the-job site work experience. I am proud to be a leader that oversees five of these apprentice programs and facilities in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. 

Our apprentices receive classroom instruction and training in the most current industry trends and cutting-edge technologies. They acquire on-the-job experience while getting paid, and receiving direct guidance from industry experts while they develop skills across various trades that will be in demand due to recent investment by the Federal government. This includes, but is not limited to, machining, framing, finishing, cabinetry, drone technology, mapping, hydrogen plant construction, heavy construction, and pile driving. The aptitude, skills, and knowledge necessary for a successful and highly paid career in construction are available throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with the help of your local and trusted Carpenters Union. 

We believe skill, safety, productivity, and attitude are key ingredients to success for our members, our contractors, and our union. Our training programs consistently challenge industry standards to improve, resulting in our union being comprised of the most highly skilled and efficient workforce available to compete in today’s highly competitive construction market. 

While making up the largest single group of skilled workers in the country, our union carpenters remain unsurpassed in performance and superiority of quality and craftsmanship. Our union is currently implementing a comprehensive outreach effort to increase diversity in our membership, with an emphasis on recruiting more women and people of color into our ranks. We are routinely reaching out to local high schools throughout our Council, talking to guidance counselors, and attending career days to help diversify our membership as we seek to entice the best and brightest to join our union.

To enhance opportunities for underserved populations, we established our Carpenters Apprenticeship Ready Program (CARP), which offers qualified candidates tutoring with certified training instructors in basic math, professional development, and soft skills needed in the construction industry. After graduation from the pre-apprentice training program, candidates can apply for entry into their local registered carpenter apprenticeship program.

Our union is constantly increasing our membership and moving forward as we continue to excel and expand our market share throughout the country. The Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters currently represents over 43,000 of the most skilled carpenters who live and work in Delaware, The District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.
